Michael Jackson’s 15-year-old daughter, Paris, has been hospitalised in Los Angeles after an apparent suicide attempt.
The late King of Pop’s middle child reportedly left her home in Calabasas, California, in an ambulance in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that paramedics had responded to a 911 call “regarding a possible overdose” at 1.27am. Jackson is expected to make a full recovery.
Several hours previously, the teen had posted a pair of cryptic tweets: “I wonder why tears are salty?” and a mournful lyric from the Beatles song, “Yesterday”: “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away… now it looks as though they’re here to stay.”
This month marks the fourth anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death, and the family is currently engaged in a messy court battle for compensation with AEG Live, the concert promoters who were working with the star at the time of his death. However, Entertainment Tonight quoted a source close to the family, who said the reason for Paris’s attempted suicide was that she had been forbidden to attend a Marilyn Manson concert taking place in Los Angeles on Thursday evening. Her mother, Debbie Rowe, told Entertainment Tonight that Jackson had “a lot going on.”
Rowe and her daughter are said to have rekindled their relationship recently after years of estrangement following Rowe’s divorce from Michael Jackson in 1999. They celebrated the teenager’s 15th birthday together last month. Rowe’s laywer Eric George said, “We appreciate everyone’s thoughts for Paris at this time and their respect for the family’s privacy.”
